Spring Update 2013

The weather has finally warmed up enough so that the main kiosks could be painted a matt dark brown.  Comments have so far been favourable with regards to the colour change.  The trees that have been planted are now showing signs of growth and the contractors will shortly be sowing grass seed.

 Kiosks painted

Our weather is certainly unpredictable at the moment having gone from a very wet period during construction to a recent dry period.  We are still working with the contractors to realise the maximum output.

Whitby Esk Energy starts exporting electricity

Following commissioning on the 12th December, the Whitby Esk Energy community hydroelectric turbine has started generating and exporting to the National Grid.  Testing of the turbine will continue over the next month or so.

Now that construction has finished, work has started to improve the look of the site. Tree planting was begun at the beginning of December but due to the amount of rain recently the remainder of the trees will be put in when the ground conditions improve. Also when the weather conditions are right the turbine and control kiosks will be painted a matt dark brown.

The Esk Energy management team would like to thank everyone who has helped realise the vision of generating ‘green’ electricity from the River Esk.

Naming ceremony – 22nd November

Recently we ran a competition to name the Archimedes screw.  Children in the Discoverers and Adventurers classes at Ruswarp Primary School were asked to come up with suggestions for the hyro development team to choose from.

We are pleased to announce that the winners of our competition to name the Archimedes screw are Isabella from the Discoverers and Katie from the Adventurers.  The name they both suggested is ‘Eureka!
