Whitby Esk Energy starts exporting electricity
Now that construction has finished, work has started to improve the look of the site. Tree planting was begun at the beginning of December but due to the amount of rain recently the remainder of the trees will be put in when the ground conditions improve. Also when the weather conditions are right the turbine and control kiosks will be painted a matt dark brown.
Turbine turns for first time
The turbine was finally turned for the first time on 30th October!

Commissioning of the turbine is set for 12th November – not long now.

Arrival of the turbine
The Archimedes screw turbine is expected to arrive on site about 9am on Tuesday 4th September.
Please come and join us watch the turbine being lowered into place during the morning, weather permitting.
We will gather on the pavement of The Carrs (B1410), on the opposite side of the river to the site – map.
Tea and coffee will be available in Ruswarp Village Hall during the morning.

Co-op North Yorkshire Area Committee Visit Site
The Co-op North Yorkshire Area Committee visited the site on Wednesday 13th June to find out more about the project. Fortunately the rain held off and from the river bank opposite they were able to see the work that has started on upgrading the fish pass. We have received a lot of support from the Co-op nationally with setting up the company and marketing the share issue. Therefore, we were pleased to have the opportunity to discuss with the local committee members the difference the support has made to the running of the project.

TV Presenter ‘Digs’ Community Co-operative’s Green Energy Scheme
TV reporter Adrian Pitches made something of a splash on Saturday, 19 May, when he visited Ruswarp to mark the start of the installation.

Adrian Pitches, environment correspondent for BBC Look North, broke the ground to get proceedings under way which will result in a generation of green energy powered by the River Esk.
Adrian Pitches, said:
I think the Esk Energy community co-operative is an excellent project – for nearly 100 people to club together and invest in green energy is very impressive.
