Workshop 2 – Licences to operate

The workshop provides an opportunity to hear updates from community hydroelectric projects around the country and hear from Esk Energy (Yorkshire) Limited about their experience in gaining the necessary licences to operate. Anyone with an interest in community hydroelectric projects is invited to attend.

Tour of site – Saturday 6th September 2014
Come and visit the Whitby Esk Energy site on Saturday 6th September. The tour will start at 3.00pm with a short introduction to the community hydroelectric scheme in Ruswarp Village Hall, followed by a guided tour of the site. The tour will finish by 4.30pm.
The path down to the turbine site is fairly rough so appropriate footwear is recommended. Please note that the site visit is weather dependent.

Visit from our MP
We invited our MP, Robert Goodwill, to visit site following his help with an Environment Agency consultation on charges for abstracting water.

Following the visit Robert Goodwill said: “Having heard so much about this project it’s great to see it in action and generating electricity in a sustainable way. I’m also pleased that this has been designed to be sympathetic to fish.”
